LA RELIGIÓN COMO SISTEMA CULTURAL: APROXIMACIONES DESDE LAANTROPOLOGÍA SIMBÓLICA CARLOS MONTES PÉREZ UNED La importancia para las humanidades del antropólogo norteamericano Clifford Geertz en los últimos años es muy grande. Su obra ha logrado transfor­ mar la antropología, la ciencia social y el pensamiento sobre la religión. El giro interpretativo que propone ha hecho posible la comprensión de los significa­ dos cambiantes y determinados que constituyen las distintas sociedades huma­ nas. Estos escritos han provocado un señalado debate sobre la naturaleza de la cultura y de la religión. El objeto de este trabajo es mostrar el punto de vista de Geertz sobre la cultura, sobre la acción simbólica humana, el significado y la religión. Para llevar a cabo esta tarea hemos analizado el discurso propuesto por nuestro antropólogo en la obra titulada “La interpretación de las culturas”. Clifford Geertz is a central figure in the humanities in the last years, whose work has transformed anthropology, social science and religion. His interpretative turn has made it possible to understand the changing and par­ ticular groups of meaning which constitute human societies. His writings have provoked debate about the nature of culture and religion. The object of this paper is to analyse Geertz's views on culture, symbolic human action, meaning and religion.
