The rectification of the irregularities was granted in the course of the papal audience of 16 March 1890 127 and the three friars who had incurred penalties "remade" their Solemn Profession on 12 April 1890 128 . One of them, Br Bernardine Dowle of Newbridge, still had another canonical dubiety to be set aright. He had been an alum– nus of St Fidelis Orphanage School and from there he had entered the Novitiate; he made his first Profession on 26 August 1883. But his Baptism certificate was missing; Fr Mark's tenacious search on its track, had the end result of discovering that Br Bernardine had been baptized in the Anglican Church in Ireland. So it was after he was given Baptism sub conditione oh Holy Saturday 1890, that he "remade" his Solemn Profession along with his two other "companions seven days later" 129 • 127 The General's pet1t1on to the Holy Father brings out the crux of the problem. In his reply of 21 April 1890 Fr General told the Commissary that the procedure for revalidating Br Bernardine's Profession had already been initiated.
