542 BENEDICT VADAKKEKARA The General was eager to know also the real economic state in which the two institutions found themselves; the Commissary was to submit annually to Rome the accounts of the two Houses 1 23 . The General sought explanation as to why only two of the nine novices then in the Novitiate were being paid the monthly quota 1 24 . At the same time the Commissary was to rest assured that the wherewithal for maintaining the Novitiate and the Study would never be failing 125 . When the Novice Master, Fr John Capistran of Antwerp, fell ill in the beginning of 1926 and retired to his Mission of Lahore, his place was taken by Fr Symphorian of Paris. Fr Albert of Brogo San Lorenzo was made Vice Master and Fr Hilary of Arezzo was nominated "the ordinary confessor of the novices" and Br Florentine the infirmarer 126 • 5.
