Quien lea este formidable volumen, tendrá una visión bastante aproximada de la historia franciscana en el suelo peninsular. También se pueden elegir, claro está (como en un diccionario) los temas que más pueden interesar al lector. Sea como sea, este I Congreso Internacional del franciscanismo de España y Portugal da pie para comenzar un estudio a fondo de todo lo franciscano de nuestras fronteras, sino es que ya lo consiguen; encontrar un grupo tan grande de profesores y especialistas en esta materia y reunirlos es una obra gigantesca, única en la oportunidad. La competencia de los ponentes está fuera de toda duda. En su mayor parte son profesores y en su totalidad entendidos en lo franciscano. Es un elenco tan amplio de intervenciones que, algún exquisito lector puede diferen– ciar un poco a unos escritores de otros, pero también es cierto que todos muestran un gran empeño en aquellos temas que se le han propuesto, por eso no he querido poner adjetivos calificativos en positivo, en cada uno de los artí– culos-ponencias, que se sobreentienden. SUMMARY: The first Internacional Congress on Franciscanísm in the Iberian Península held on 22-27 September 2003 in Madrid has been a great event for ali the lovers of the spirituality of St Francis in the Spanish and Portuguese lands. The Hispanic Association of Franciscan Studies did wonders by bringing together in one gathering a host of professors and specialists connected with the Franciscan world. The book under review intends to make a historical evaluation and offer some perspectives for future research. Starting with a rather copious section of sources and bibliography on the history of Spanísh-Portuguese Franciscanism, the volume proceeds to analyse the life of the different Franciscan families through the course of history. Then, in the section of research perspectives and monographs, there is an abundance of more specific topics which give a basis to the whole contents of the charismatic aspects meant to be studied, always in line with history which continues to involve our menta– lity and our everyday existence. In the same way, it deals with topics connected with philosophy, the medieval university Studia of the Franciscans. The section of art com– pletes this "omníum gatherum" of experts in this monumental work of 10,20 pages, full of clear perspectives, in the wake of which we understand better the great history which the Franciscans have created, both in the Iberian Península and among the peoples in contact with it, especially in the American continent. 8 Es una pena que no se hubiesen puesto unas cubiertas más fuertes, unas tapas que pudieran moldear mejor lo voluminoso de la obra.
