(f.123r-v) Versus de paenitentia (in ms.: Haec sunt necessaria confitenti. Paeniteas cito peccator cum sit miserator...) a metrical work printed in PL 207, 1153-1156 among the works of Peter of Blois, but also ascribed to William de Montibus, Magister Thomas, Robert Grosseteste and John of Garland. The authorship of Garland was accepted by L.J. Paetow (Morale Scolarium of John of Garland, Berkeley 1927, 138) but this is no longer tenable as it has been shown that the work was known to William de Montibus who died in 1213 (cf. Mediaeval Studies 23[1959] 9 note 28). See also M.W. Bloomfield in Traditio 11(1955) 325s, n.615; S.H. THOMSON, The Writings of Robert Grosseteste, Cambridge 1940, 257s; H.
