Salmanticensis 63 (2016) 243-282 Creación, desarrollo y restauración de la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca Miguel Anxo Pena González Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca Resumen : El presente ensayo hace un recorrido por la historia de la Universidad Pontificia de Sala- manca, en la que se detiene en sus orígenes y creación, el desarrollo y evolución de la misma, –al amparo del apoyo pontificio que la habilita como Universitas–, para recorrer después las luchas vividas a par- tir del siglo XV, en la búsqueda de poder e influencia por parte del rey y del pontífice, que ven en ella un apoyo a sus intereses particu- lares. Un momento singular es el vivido en el siglo XIX cuando, en el contexto de los gobiernos libe- rales, se suprimen las facultades eclesiásticas en el seno de la ins- titución, momento en que pasa a denominarse Universidad Literaria de Salamanca, restaurándose pos- teriormente, de manera autónoma y en pasos sucesivos, como Univer- sidad Pontificia de Salamanca, en la que se instaura en 1940. Palabras clave : Universidad de Salamanca, Seminario Conciliar de San Carlos, Supresión de las facultades eclesiásticas, Fuentes documentales para la historia de la Universidad Pontificia de Sala- manca Abstract : The present essay takes the reader in a trip through the history of the University of Salamanca, touching the main moments of its origins and creation as well as its development and evo- lution, –supported by the pontifical recognition that granted the title of Universitas–, going also through the fights endured during the XV century, due to the search of power and influence by the king and the pontiff, trying to maneuver through it their own private interests. A special moment happened during the XIX century when, in the con- text of the liberal governments, the church faculties are suppres- sed inside the institution; from this moment onwards the name is changed into Literary University of Salamanca. Only latter, in an auto- nomous way and step by step, it was then restored as Pontifical Uni- versity of Salamanca, in 1940.
